Hello, we are team pauldevroom + sputnik #
team pauldevroom + sputnik is an office for architecture, urbanism, and research. Our team is led by Paul de Vroom, Henk Bultstra and Bert Karel Deuten and consists of creative professionals with various international backgrounds who know their business. We work with a small team in which everybody carries responsibility and decision power in his own field of expertise. This work method guarantees our clients a personal treatment of the project.
team pauldevroom + sputnik started as a collaboration between two offices: Paul de Vroom Architecten and Sputnik Architecten and is currently working on international projects that vary from (social) housing projects to offices and other commercial buildings.
Paul de Vroom Architecten was founded in 2013. With this office, de Vroom has embarked on a new and challenging course, after a career of 30 years as founder-partner of DKV Architecten. With DKV, Paul de Vroom realized a series of projects in the field of housing, urban planning, utility constructions and public programs that were received with excellent reviews nationally and abroad.
Sputnik Architecten is a Dutch office. There is no Russian background or affiliation. The name was chosen when the office was founded in 2000, referring to the first satellite that was put into orbit in 1957. A sky-reaching idea, executed with elegant simplicity. The office mirrors its design method on that. It symbolizes innovation and a optimistic view on the future.
Together we form a solid base for design and technical elaboration: We share our preference for typological thinking, for clear, unexpected designs and for refined architectural details. Combined with the compatible talents and experiences of the team this immediately evokes synergy.
We create high quality design based on social commitment and craftmanship. We aim to realize buildings that fullfil the needs of its users, sit right in their context and are in line with the vision of the client.
ir. Paul de Vroom (1953)
“Architecture is the art of omission. The more projects I make, the more I am aware of this. It is always about the essence of an architectural design, in a successful project every part contributes to this at every scale level, from the elementary concept to the most minute detail.”
Paul founded Paul de Vroom architects in 2013, after the closing of DKV Architects, of which he had been a founder-partner since 1985. With DKV, he was responsible for more than 200 projects in residential, urban and non-residential construction, which brought him a lot of fame, both in the Netherlands and abroad. With Team Paul de Vroom + Sputnik he will continue this course. The many lectures, jury participations and educational activities that Paul has to his name have contributed significantly to his reputation. Besides building, studying is his great passion. Favorite subjects he has devoted himself to over time are Urban Prototypes, the Russian Avantgarde, Catalan Modernism and the relationship between Dutch-Indies and Indonesian architecture.

ir. Henk Bultstra (1971)
“I like simplicity and beauty. I try to find the simplest answer for every assignment and to bring out the beauty hidden in that answer with an attractive design. I don't see that as a style issue but as an approach. There is never just one answer to a question, but there is always one that appeals to me the most.”
Henk plays a decisive role in all projects. He was an architect/advisor at Bureau Spoorbouwmeester. Henk teaches architecture courses in Delft, Amsterdam and Tilburg and leads international workshops for architecture students.

ir. Bert Karel Deuten (1970)
“For me, the essence of architecture is the way in which spaces enable optimal use. Solving that puzzle for the end user is my main goal.”
Bert Karel is involved in every phase of the design and implementation of our built projects, from the first sketch to the last brick. In addition, he is specialized in developing typologies and innovative concepts. This specialism is reflected in our research projects. Bert Karel teaches at TU Delft and leads international workshops for architecture students. He gives lectures on our work and social housing studies, both in education and at professional meetings.
